Jeff proposed to me at my work Christmas party in December of 2007. At the time we were living on the NH Seacoast. Jeff wanted to take advantage of the fact that the party was taking place at The Wentworth by the Sea Hotel and that it was Christmas time, which is one of my favorite times of the year. He planned to ask me there and had the ring in his pocket the entire time! I had no idea! He took me on a short walk down a beautiful corridor of the hotel filled with decorated Christmas trees (the hotel is gorgeous at Christmas). We sat down by a tree and he got down on one knee and asked me, and I said yes! It was exciting because I could tell and show all of my co-workers- they were all very excited.
I knew I wanted to get married on the Seacoast; we both love the ocean and had been living there together for the past 5 years.I took one of my Bridesmaids to visit the Abenaqui Country Club in Rye; I fell in love, it was perfect! Fortunately, one of the members sponsored us. It’s a gorgeous country club with a quaint feel and it was perfect for us. The wedding was outside on the green and the reception was inside in the ballroom.
The theme of our wedding was “Simple Elegance”. We had a budget and with the help of our parents we wanted to create an amazing wedding without going overboard. I wanted it to be beautiful and elegant, but simple and natural. I wanted seashells, hydrangeas, and things that represented the seacoast in the summer. Rather than do favors, we chose to do a candy buffet, which was very popular. We used green, blue, and white candy with a poem to our guests and bags with tags that read “Love is Sweet –Jeff & Amy August 9, 2008”. We also had cupcakes because we're not really “cake people”. They were delicious and were each topped with a white chocolate shell. Another thing that was very special to me was that my Brother Dave walked me down the aisle, my father has never been a part of my life so it meant so much to me to give him the honor. It was very special.
We had a “Sparkler Send-off” at the end of the reception. Everyone lit blue and green sparklers to send us off on the Seacoast Trolley. It made for a great ending and some great pictures.
The wedding was more than I could have ever imagined. I’m not one that has dreamed of the big day since I was a little girl so I went into it with no expectations. All I knew was that I wanted to be married to Jeff and create a beautiful and memorable day for us first, and share it with our family and friends. Most importantly, we couldn’t have done it without our wonderful parents. We’re very grateful to them for all our their participation and support.
